All students and staff are expected to uphold high standards of conduct and appearance. Clothing should be suitable and comfortable for normal school activities and should reflect the respect, pride and standards of the student"s home and community. Clothing should not distract from the learning environment.
General clothing standards for all children require that shoes must be worn at all times and should be worn with appropriate socks or stockings.
The following items are not allowed to be worn at school:
- Open-toed sandals, flip flops, slippers, high heel shoes and healies (sneaker skates)
- Bare midriff tops, halter tops/blouses/shirts, mini shorts/skirts/skorts, and pajamas
- Blouses or tops with straps smaller than one inch wide
- Beachwear
- T-shirts with inappropriate logos or words
- Dangling or large earrings
- Sunglasses
Many of the above items can be hazardous when running and jumping on the blacktop and dirt playground.
The principal may approve exceptions to the dress code for unusual situations or for specific events, such as spirit days.
Students who come to school inappropriately dressed will either call their parent for a change of clothing or if a parent cannot be reached, be given a set to borrow.
In hot weather we strongly recommend parents put sunscreen on their child. A hat may be worn during outside activities. Shoes worn to school must be safe and appropriate. Safety must be particularly considered during PE. Thong type shoe wear or high stacked heels are not allowed. If sandals are worn, the student should bring suitable footwear for PE. The classroom teachers will enforce the dress code.
Consequences for not adhering to these rules are as follows:
- Verbal warning/note sent to parents
- Parents called
- Sent to administrator
