U.S.S. Midway

U.S.S. Midway

Ericson's 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes recently visited the U.S.S. Midway in beautiful downtown San Diego. Along with participating in hands-on workshops, the classes also got an insider's look at the different compartments on board the aircraft carrier.

Third Grade classes learned about how the USS Midway is really a "City at Sea", that requires cooperation, teamwork, and communication to enable the ship's crew to live and work together in such tight quarters.

Post Class

Fourth Grade classes participated in a workshop and learned how to operate hand-held generators to create electricity. Students discovered the "City at Sea" requires a lot electricity and learned how engineers on the ship were able to produce enough electricity to keep things 'lit' while they are at sea.

Fourth Grade

Fifth Grade students learned how the weather impacts the USS Midway's movements and daily operations. Students took on the role of 'Aerographers' for the day as they collected wind speed, temperature, barometric pressure and dew point readings in different locations on board. They learned how Aerographers and other meteorologist use data to help predict and track weather systems.
