California English Language Development Test (CELDT)

If your child is considered an English learner, he or she will take part in an annual assessment in the fall called the California English Language Development Test (CELDT).

English learners take the CELDT to measure growth in English in four areas: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. The results are then shared with teachers and parents in order to determine the best instructional program for each student.

As new students enter Ericson throughout the school year, they are also assessed on CELDT if the family has indicated that language other than English is used at home. In the spring, the official CELDT results are sent home via U.S. mail. At that time, the English Learner Support Teacher (ELST) holds an informational meeting to discuss the ways in which the results are used to support the language development of the English learners at Ericson.

The ELST is also available by appointment to meet with parents to discuss their child's official or unofficial CELDT results and instructional program placement.
