Volunteering Information: 
Attention All Future Field Trips Chaperones:
The process for volunteering as a chaperone for field trips at Ericson has changed. To comply with state requirements, the district now requires chaperones to be Category D volunteers, which requires a background check and fingerprinting (live scan).
The Viking Volunteer Committee and Friends of Ericson (FOE) will be hosting live scan events on campus over the next couple of months. Due to the prohibitive cost of the live scan, the district is partnering with San Diego Mobile Notary for a discounted fee and FOE will be sponsoring part of the cost of a limited number of live scans (~147 scans). If you sign up for a live scan on campus, you will only have to pay $35 per scan (while supplies last).
Here are the steps:
- Complete the Volunteer Connection Form and select “field trips” as one of your interests.
- Complete the Volunteer Clearance Packet and submit it to the office. Keep the completed “Request for Live Scan Service” and bring it with you to your appointment.
- Sign up for one of our events - click here. (Check back often for new events).
- Bring your ID and a form of payment.
- We will submit a copy of your live scan request to the school (it will be collected at the event).
Please allow up to 2 weeks for processing of your prints/background check and for clearance by the district. Plan ahead, the first set of field trips are in October.
Please note:
- Your live scan is valid for the SDUSD district and does not need to be performed again unless you take a year or more off of volunteering.
- If you have already completed a live scan for the SDUSD district (and have not lapsed), you only need to select Category C on the “Request to Conduct Volunteer Screening” document (provided in the Clearance Packet).
- If you choose to get your live scan done off campus, the price is upwards to $100 and you must return a copy of your “Request for Live Scan Service” to the office after your scan.
- Live scans done for other agencies (work, sports, etc.) are non-transferable.
